K-pop artists took over Billboard’s year-end charts and sported their global popularity this year, with artists such as Fifty Fifty, Jungkook, Stray Kids and NewJeans placing their names on Billboard’s 2023 wrap-up report.
Billboard’s year-end charts compile the performance of songs, albums and artists from November of the previous year to October of the current year.
Girl group Fifty Fifty ranked No. 44 on Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 Songs chart with “Cupid,” becoming the first K-pop girl group to enter the chart.
Jungkook of BTS has also been placed at No. 82 on the same chart with “Seven,” which features American rapper Latto. The song is the first by a K-pop soloist to enter the chart in 11 years since singer Psy‘s “Gangnam Style” in 2012.
Charlie Puth’s “Left and Right,” which Jungkook featured in, sat at No. 186 on year-end Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart and “3D (feat. Jack Harlow)” at No. 31 on the year-end Digital Song Sales chart.
K-pop artists proved their relevance on Billboard’s year-end 200 Albums chart as well.
Stray Kids’ third full-length album “5-Star” sat on No. 82, being the highest-ranked K-pop artist in the chart.
Following Stray Kids, boy band Tomorrow X Together charted No. 122 with its fifth EP “The Name Chapter: Temptation.” This marks the band’s third year in a row to make the year-end charts, a first since BTS.
Girl group NewJeans’s second EP “Get Up” sat at No. 134 on the same chart after a year and four months since its debut in July 2022. The group ranked the highest among K-pop female artists.
Under the same agency as NewJeans, BTS’s Jimin‘s solo album “Face” sat at No. 193 on the chart, a first for a K-pop solo artist.
Girl group Twice entered the year-end Top Album Sales with its 12th EP “Ready To Be” at No. 7, being the only K-pop girl group in the top 10.
Another JYP girl group ITZY also put its name on the chart with its EP “Cheshire” and EP ”Kill My Doubt” on Top Current Album Sales at No. 69 and No. 97, respectively.
