For those new to the BTS scene, the term “Mochi” might conjure various images. So, let’s delve into why Jimin is affectionately referred to as the Mochi of BTS.

Before that, let’s take a glimpse into Jimin’s early life:

  • Park Ji-min, born on October 13, 1995, and popularly known as Jimin, is the singer and dancer of the renowned K-pop band BTS.
  • During his middle school years, Jimin attended the Just Dance Academy, where he mastered dance styles like popping and locking.

  • Prior to becoming a trainee, he specialized in contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts and stood out in the modern dance department, which explains why the idol’s graceful movements shine through during his performances.

  • A teacher’s recommendation led him to join an entertainment company, and thus, Jimin became a part of Big Hit Entertainment and BTS.

As a tradition, BTS members go live on Weverse on their birthdays, sharing the joy of cutting the cake with their devoted fans, also known as ARMYs.

K-Pop idols are often christened with endearing monikers by their devoted fandoms, and if you’re an ARMY, you’d know that Mochi is one of the most popular ones. Fans began calling Jimin by this nickname after noticing a distinctive feature:

  • Ever since Jimin’s debut, fans observed that when the idol pouts, his cheeks resemble something soft and squishy, much like the texture of a delightful sweet treat.

  • Mochi, a Japanese rice cake made from sticky rice, is known for its chewy texture and can be enjoyed plain or filled with sweet delights like red bean paste or ice cream.

  • In South Korea, Mochi is a term used to praise things or individuals deemed as fluffy, cute, and endearing.
  • When you refer to someone or something as Mochi, you’re essentially describing them as charming and adorable as a rice cake.
