K-pop megastar Lisa of BLACKPINK has a billion reasons to celebrate after making history with her track “MONEY.” The song, which is a B-side to her debut single “LALISA,” recently became the first K-pop track by a solo artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify. Guinness World Records has confirmed the feat, proving that Lisa continues to be a powerful force outside of her performances and releases with the group.
“MONEY” was released as her second solo single in November 2021 and the music video itself has since garnered 904 million (and growing) views on YouTube. Now, less than two years after the song’s release, her fans have played the track over one billion times on Spotify around the world. Lisa’s fellow group mates Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé have also enjoyed success as solo artists. Currently, Lisa has 10.68 million monthly Spotify listeners and as of September 21, 2023, “MONEY” has amassed over 1,002,683,408 streams. The song surpasses BLACKPINK’s best-performing track which has 855.7 million streams by the same date on Spotify.
While this is a major feat for Lisa as a solo artist, she has been breaking records with BLACKPINK for a while. By March 2023, the group has become the most streamed female group on Spotify, surpassing eight billion views. In the same month, Lisa recorded 90.7 million followers on Instagram, making her the most followed K-pop star on Instagram. The news comes in the midst of reports that members of the band will no longer be renewing their contract with YG Entertainment.
