Popular K-pop group BTS has renewed their contract with HYBE. The Big Hit Music also donated 1 billion won ($750,000) in ARMY’s name as a gratitude to the boyband and ARMYs. This is the second time BTS has renewed a contract with HYBE. The band will come back together in 2025 after their military duties are fulfilled.
BTS Renews Contract With HYBE
On Wednesday, HYBE released a statement, “We have completed the board of directors’ resolution to renew the exclusive contracts of the seven members of BTS, artists under Big Hit Music. With all members signing a second contract renewal, the group will be able to continue even after 2025 when they complete their military service.”
BTS leader RM aka Kim Namjoon has also confirmed BTS’ comeback in 2025. He took to his Instagram Stories and wrote, “army 2025,” adding purple hearts.
The topic of military enlistment for the members of BTS has been a subject of ongoing discussion in South Korea. Nevertheless, the members have consistently expressed their commitment to fulfilling their civic duty when their country beckons.
Individually, the seven members of the group are gradually undergoing mandatory military service in the Korean army. They are scheduled to complete their military obligations by 2025, after which they plan to reunite as a band and continue creating music together.
South Korea’s Compulsory Military Enlistment
Military enlistment is compulsory in South Korea due to the country’s conscription system, which is primarily driven by national security concerns related to the ongoing conflict with North Korea. The Korean Peninsula remains in a state of armistice, with the Korean War never officially ending in a peace treaty. As a result, South Korea maintains a large standing military to deter potential threats from North Korea.
