South Korea, be on the lookout – Thai stars are making waves and establishing themselves as a dominant force in the global entertainment industry. While K-pop continues to feature some of the most popular Thai stars such as Lisa of Blackpink, BamBam from Got7, Nichkhun from 2PM, Ten from WayV, and Minnie from (G)I-dle, Thai stars are increasingly gaining recognition on the international stage through their home-grown TV dramas known as lakorns. Additionally, their presence on fashion red carpets and international appeal has helped them expand their reach to a wider audience. Here are nine Thai stars who have captured the world’s attention in 2023.
1. Tontawan Tantivejakul (Tu)
Tontawan Tantivejakul, also known as Tu, had a breakout year after landing the lead role as Gorya in F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers. In addition, she was named the brand ambassador for Dior and featured in K-pop group G(I)-dle’s music video for “I Do: A Love Story in Bangkok”. She is set to make her big screen debut with The Chinese Family in 2024.
2. Jirawat Sutivanisak (Dew)
Jirawat Sutivanisak, also known as Dew, gained attention with his role in F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers and made appearances at Milan Fashion Week. He also acted in the drama series Home School and G(I)-dle’s music video “I Do: A Love Story in Bangkok”.
3. Chanikarn Tangkabodee (Prim)
Prim, who stars in F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers, has emerged as a rising star with various roles and brand partnerships.
4 & 5. Nattawat Jirochtikul (Fourth) Norawit Titicharoenrak (Gemini)
Both Nattawat Jirochtikul (Fourth) and Norawit Titicharoenrak (Gemini) have gained fame with their lead roles in the boys’ love drama My School President. They have appeared on the cover of GQ Thailand’s Men of the Year 2023.
6. Jeff Satur
Jeff Satur, known for his role in KinnPorsche: The Series, has also made a name for himself as a musician and is set to embark on his first six-city Asian tour in 2024.
7. MXFruit
The new T-pop girl group, MXFruit, has quickly gained popularity with their lively English track “Strawberry Ice Cream” and have garnered a strong following in Thailand.
8 & 9. Sarocha Chankimha (Freen) and Rebecca Patricia Armstrong (Becky)
Freen and Becky have risen to cultural icon status with their roles in Gap: The Series, Thailand’s first girls’ love drama. They have also been featured on the cover of GQ Thailand Men of the Year 2023.
