Two of Korea’s major K-pop entertainment companies — YG and JYP — will each be holding auditions next year to find the next big K-pop star.
Both companies announced Monday that they would be holding nationwide auditions starting on Jan. 13. YG Entertainment, which is home to girl groups like Blackpink and boy band Treasure, is kicking off its audition titled “2024 YG National Audition Tour” in Jeju Island on Jan. 13, followed by Gwangju on Jan. 20, Jeonju on Jan. 21, Busan on Jan. 27, Daegu on Jan. 28, Daejeon on Feb. 3, Wonju on Feb. 4 and ending in Seoul on Feb. 17 and 18.
YG Entertainment’s upcoming nationwide in-person audition is its first in four years.
The audition will be open to all teenagers residing in the country who were born sometime within 2006 to 2013, regardless of gender or nationality. Applicants can choose to participate in one of four categories: singing, rapping, dancing or visuals.
YG Entertainment was founded in 1996 by music producer and songwriter Yang Hyun-suk.
JYP Entertainment, which represents K-pop bands Twice and Stray Kids, will begin its own audition on Jan. 13 in Daejeon. It will then move to Gwangju on Jan. 14, Busan on Jan. 20, Daegu on Jan. 21 and finish in Seoul on Jan. 27 and 28.
The audition is open to anyone born within 2006 to 2014 and has five audition categories: singing, rapping, dancing, modeling and acting. JYP’s nationwide audition is its first in three years. JYP Entertainment was founded in 1997 by producer and singer-songwriter Park Jin-young.
