NewJeans, a 4th-generation, 5-member girl group under the South Korean entertainment giant Hybe Label’s subsidiary ADOR, is making waves barely a year into their debut, and their latest achievement is nothing short of remarkable.
The group’s hit single, “Ditto,” has become a streaming phenomenon, crossing the impressive milestone of 500 million streams on Spotify, the group’s agency said on Monday. This comes as no surprise considering the song’s chart-topping success on South Korea’s Melon streaming service, where it held the number one position for an astounding 14 consecutive weeks.

Released as part of the group’s first single album, “OMG,” on December 19 last year, “Ditto” has proven to be a powerhouse of popularity. The track’s success is not limited to South Korea; it quickly found its place on the highly competitive US Billboard’s Hot 100, securing NewJeans a spot only six months after their debut. What’s more, “Ditto” has held its ground on the chart for an impressive 49 weeks.
The international recognition doesn’t stop there. “Ditto” has made its mark on the global music scene, ranking 24th and 52nd on the Billboard Global Excl. US and Billboard Global 200 yearly charts, respectively. This achievement cements NewJeans’ status as a rising force in the global music industry.
The brainchild of ADOR CEO Min Hee-Jin, who previously served as the Chief Brand Officer under Hybe Corporation, NewJeans has swiftly become a fan favorite. Comprising members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, the group’s music resonates with fans for its relatability.
Adding to their accolades, “Ditto” recently earned NewJeans the coveted Song of the Year honor at two major K-pop music awards — the 2023 MAMA Awards and the Melon Music Awards 2023. These accolades speak to the group’s impact on the industry in a remarkably short period.
Apple Music’s Global Year-End Chart further solidifies NewJeans’ standing as a dominant force in K-pop. “Ditto” secured the 19th position, surpassing even the solo efforts of BTS’s youngest member Jungkook. In a historic feat, NewJeans became the first K-pop act to have three songs in the Top 100 list of Top Global Songs, with “OMG” at 37 and “Hype Boy” at 64.
Notably, NewJeans dominated Apple Music’s Top Songs 2023 list in Korea, claiming the top three positions with “Ditto,” “OMG,” and “Hype Boy,” respectively. This impressive showing underscores the group’s widespread appeal and solidifies their position as a frontrunner in the ever-expanding K-pop universe.
In just a year since their debut, NewJeans has not only charmed the hearts of their dedicated fandom, affectionately known as ‘Bunnies,’ but has also carved out a significant space for themselves on the global stage. With “Ditto” crossing the monumental threshold of 500 million streams, NewJeans’ ascent shows no signs of slowing down, promising an exciting journey ahead for this talented and dynamic girl group.
