For at least the next few hours, Stray Kids claim the bestselling album in America. The South Korean boy band’s latest effort, Rock-Star, sits at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, which ranks the top-selling titles in the country. With another leader to their credit, the vocal group advances again on the all-time ranking of the most successful K-pop acts in U.S. history.
Rock-Star marks Stray Kids’ fourth No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. As they secure their fourth win, they tie with another beloved boy band from the Asian nation. Stray Kids are now on the same level as NCT 127, and the two groups together claim the fourth-most No. 1 charters on the ranking of the bestselling albums.
Both NCT 127 and Stray Kids advanced to four No. 1s recently. About a month before Rock-Star ruled, NCT 127’s Fact Check worked its way to the top spot.
Leading all South Korean musical acts when looking at who has collected the most No. 1 titles on the Top Album Sales chart is BTS. The septet has accrued half a dozen leaders on the tally. Tied for second place are Seventeen and Tomorrow X Together. Those two bands have both earned five No. 1 bestsellers.
Before Rock-Star arrived, Stray Kids sat in fifth place, and they weren’t alone. The band was on par with Twice, the most successful K-pop girl group when looking at the most No. 1 bestselling albums. Now, those women are steady with their trio of wins, at least for the moment.
Rock-Stararrives at No. 1 on both the Top Album Sales chart and the Billboard 200, which takes into account streams as well as pure purchases. On the former, the new short set opens with just under 213,000 copies sold, according to Luminate. The band has now reached the top 10 four times, with all of those hits rising to the summit.
