We, South-East Asians definitely share the same comfort food and that is probably rice with a side of eggs. It’s versatile and you can dress it up however you want it to be. Recently, Lisa of Blackpink, who hails from Thailand appeared in a Spotify video where she received a plaque for her song, Money. The special plaque which signifies an artist’s entry into the billions club (for one billion streams on Spotify) was presented to her. In the video, she tells the viewers that she was in France at that time and she opened up a box containing the plaque which, in our opinion, looks like a silver plate. She then starts cooking her all-time favourite Thai dish which is the Khai Jiao, a very simple Thai shrimp omelette. After she was done deep frying it, she loaded up the plaque with steaming hot white rice and laid the omelette on it. Lisa also put a spicy Thai chilli sauce on it before she took her very first bite. Many Malaysians could relate to Lisa on the part of comfort/end-of-the-month food, as for many of us, it’s the very simple nasi bujang. “Even Lisa eats nasi bujang.” “This is a little different as she eats nasi bujang with fragrant rice and AA egg.” “After this, you can’t call it nasi bujang anymore, you have to call it the Lisa Blackpink rice.” You can watch the full video here. Well, seeing Lisa make the omelette and rice has certainly roused our appetite, guess we know what’s for dinner!
