JYP Entertainment’s first global girl group, VCHA, is bridging the gap between America and Korea with their debut song, “Y.O.Universe.” This unique group is an American girl group influenced by K-Pop and trained in Korea. The members of VCHA were brought together through JYP Entertainment’s survival group show, America2Korea (A2K). Follow their journey from auditions to their first performances, leading up to the announcement of the final group. Now, VCHA presents “Y.O.Universe,” a song and video that capture their artistic journeys.

In an exclusive Zoom call, we had the privilege of meeting the six members of VCHA, who joined us live from JYP’s training room in Korea. Let them introduce themselves: Lexi, who helps keep the group focused and organized; Camila, the mom of the group; Kendall, the self-proclaimed artist of VCHA; Savanna, the cool dance teacher; KG, the member who enjoys songwriting; and Kaylee, the youngest of the group. Watch their first on-screen interviews, or continue reading to uncover more about their journey.

Lexi: 1, 2
VCHA: Hi, we are VCHA!
Kaylee: Hi, I’m Kaylee, I’m 13 years old, and I am the youngest in VCHA.
Lexi: Hi, I’m Lexi, I’m 17, and I help try to keep the group focused and organized.
Kendall: Hi, I’m Kendall, I’m 17 and I’m from Texas, and I am the self-proclaimed artist of the group.
Camila: Hi, I’m Camila, I’m 18 years old, and I’m the Mom of the group.
Savanna: Hi, I’m Savanna, I’m 17 years old, and I’ll say I’m the cool dance teacher of the group.
KG: Hi, I’m KG, I’m 16, and I guess I’m the musical one who enjoys songwriting as well.

KG: If I’m correct, you guys don’t have a random name yet! I was wondering if you could choose one, what could it be?
Savanna: We haven’t really officially thought of one together. I feel like I’m not the most creative person out there, so I haven’t come up with anything good.
Lexi: It’s kind of hard to find something that connects to our name too!
Camila: We’ve had some thoughts about the name. We’ve come up with a few ideas, you know! It’s still in the process, you never know.

Kaylee: VCHA comes from the Korean word “비쳐” which means to shine or illuminate, as JY Park explained during the show. We are here because we have role models and people we look up to that inspired us to be in the music industry. We want to shine or illuminate a path that other people can also look up to and be inspired by us to follow their dreams.

Kendall: It’s only been about 2 1/2 months since the show ended. Regionals were in September 2022, the LA boot camp was in November, and the Korean boot camp ended in July. So it’s been only a couple of months.

Savanna: Like you said, we’ve been training super hard for our debut. We’ve been preparing a lot for our title track “Y.O Universe.” We performed it on the show, but now as six, we had to learn new parts of the choreography and formations with all six of us. So we’ve just been training super hard on the dance and vocals. Full of lessons and just training for our debut.

Kendall: Alongside that, we’ve been spending a lot of time bonding as a group. We want to get to know each other more. We spend a lot of time going to each other’s rooms, talking, and hanging out. Eating meals together and having fun!

Kendall: This song, “Y.O.Universe,” is very important for us as a group. It describes us coming together as a group. The lyrics portray the message of being yourself and fully expressing who you are. It’s okay to be who you are, and we want to share that message with everyone.

Camila: We usually hang out randomly in pairs. We go eat together and visit each other’s rooms. We see each other all the time, but it’s usually in pairs.

KG: Me and Kaylee like to take random walks together, eat some food, and go shopping at the mall.

Savanna: Me and Kendall like to game a lot. We’re gaming duos. We also like to go to PC cafes.

Lexi: Camila will just randomly ring my doorbell. She’ll invite herself in, sit on my bed, and start looking at YouTube. We don’t really talk, but we hang out by being on our phones next to each other.

Camila: We also have deep talks. I like going with Kendall. We go shopping, buy albums, and eat boba.

Savanna: We’ve all taken the MBTI quiz, and we’re all “I”s. Kaylee is ISTJ, Lexi is ISFP, Kendall is ISTJ, Camila is INFJ, Savanna is ISFJ, and I’m ISFP.

The girls discuss their inspirations and dream collaborations, including artists like Ariana Grande, Shakira, Nmixx, Itzy, and Stray Kids. They also talk about their past experiences with performing.

Lexi: There are a lot of good Hmong dishes! One dish I really love is Hmong sausages. It’s a classic dish with an Asian twist. It’s great with purple sticky rice and spicy pepper sauce. You dip the sausages in the sauce and eat them with the rice.

And that wraps up our interview with VCHA. Stay tuned for more updates from this talented group and their exciting journey in the music industry.
