BTS, Kim Chaewon, BLACKPINK’s Rosé: K-POP celebrities who DENIED involvement in drugs scandal

The Korean entertainment industry has been rocked by the drugs scandal. Actor Lee Sun Gyun is being investigated by the police over suspected drug use, while popular K-Pop singer G-Dragon has been reportedly booked by the Incheon Police Agency on charges of violating the law on control of narcotics. Amid this controversy, take a look at other K-Pop celebrities who have officially denied involvement in the drugs scandal.

This popular band was linked to the drugs controversy, with reports suggesting that the members visited the establishment which is being probed in the ongoing investigation. Denying any association to the controversy, Big Hit Music stated, “BTS are completely unrelated to the rumors, and they’re not true at all. We’ll respond strongly to the reckless spread of rumors.”

​Kim Chaewon of LE SSERAFIM

Buzz on the internet also named LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon in the drugs scandal, following her inactivity. However, her agency soon issued a clarification on the same. On October 26, LE SSERAFIM’s agency SOURCE MUSIC released an official statement, “The rumors about Kim Chaewon are not true at all. Kim Chaewon is recovering from the aftereffects of the flu and is scheduled to resume her activities on November 1.”

(G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon and singer-songwriter Park Sun Joo were also quick to refute buzz of any involvement in substance abuse. According to Soompi, Jeon Soyeon’s agency Cube Entertainment and Park Sun Joo’s agency stated, “The drug rumors are groundless.” while Cube Entertainment added, “We will take strong action against the spread of false rumors.” It is also being reported that the involvement of female singers is misinformation.

​BLACKPINK’s Rosé

Earlier in April this year, BLACKPINK’s Rosé was embroiled in substance abuse speculations. It all began after pictures of the singer with former Burberry chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci were shared online and netizens claimed to spot drugs in the background. Issuing a strongly worded denial, YG Entertainment said, “We reveal that the rumors associated with BLACKPINK’s Rosé that are spreading on various online communities, social media, etc. are clear false information. We are taking legal action against acts that violate the human rights of and defame our agency artist. We are currently monitoring those who created and spread the rumors, and will take strong legal action in the future without any leniency or settlement.”
