West Texas A&M University is hosting the McNair Scholars Research Showcase, where over a dozen talented students will showcase their research on various topics such as social media, history, climate change, antibiotics, ticks, and K-pop. The event will take place on October 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the atrium of Cornette Library on WT’s Canyon campus. During the showcase, 14 McNair students will present posters and engage in discussions about their research with WT students, faculty, staff, and community visitors. The McNair Scholars Program at WT, funded by a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, prepares underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation undergraduate students for doctoral study through research and scholarly activities. Since its establishment in 1999, the program has supported the education and research endeavors of 260 McNair Scholars who have earned their bachelor’s degrees, and an additional 152 who have obtained graduate or professional degrees. The program currently serves 30 students per year, providing them with mentorship, seminars, research stipends, academic support, and assistance with graduate school admissions and financial aid.
