Who is K-Pop singer Aoora and why was he singing Woh Kisna Hai in Mathura?

South Korean singer Aoora has made quite a splash in the Indian media scene, delighting audiences with renditions of songs like “Woh Kisna Hai” at a Mathura concert and covering Indian classics like “Yeh Shaam Mastani.”

A quick look at Aoora’s social media profiles reveals that this K-pop star has truly embraced Indian culture.

But who is Aoora, and how did this South Korean singer fully embrace the Desi way?

Who is Aoora?

  • Park Min-jun, better known as Aoora, is a South Korean singer and composer.
  • He was a member of the K-Pop boy band Double-A and its subunit Aoora&Hoik.
  • His journey in the music world began on September 4, 2009, with the release of the song “Love Back.”
  • Subsequently, he ventured into a solo career, debuting with his first solo single, “Body Party,” on March 28, 2014.

However, it’s his foray into Indian music that has garnered him significant attention.

Aroora’s journey to becoming Desi 

  • One of his mashups, “Swag Se Swagat,” posted on September 23, 2022, has amassed over a million views and garnered widespread attention.
  •  On May 25, Aoora released a K-pop version of the popular track ‘Jimmy Jimmy,’ complete with Korean lyrics.
  • He calls it a Bollywood K-pop alert, highlighting his commitment to fostering Indo-Korean collaborations and inclusivity in his music.

 

Aoora’s rendition of ‘Woh Kisna Hai’

On October 1, Aoora took the stage at Sanskriti University in Mathura, much to the delight of fans. He left everyone pleasantly surprised by performing ‘Woh Kisna Hai’.

Aoora shared the video of this memorable performance on his Instagram with the caption – “Jai shri Krishna Miss U Uttar Pradesh I love Greater Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Mathura. Hope we meet again.”

Additionally, he performed at Sharda University in Noida, SR Group of Institutions in Lucknow, and various other institutions as part of his Uttar Pradesh tour.

Aoora’s journey extends beyond the stage; he’s often seen visiting Indian temples and actively participating in Indian festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. His deep embrace of Indian culture and his dedication to creating Indo-Korean music are truly remarkable.

Given the popularity of K-pop music and culture in India, Aoora’s unique blend of the two has set him apart in a league of his own.
