We sat down with the South Korean actress and pop-star, who came to town for the launch of Estée Lauder’s Beauty Sleep Lounge event
Yoona first debuted as part of K-pop group Girls’ Generation back in 2007, as the main performer of one of the most successful Korean girl groups of all time. Since then, the star has embarked on a solo music career before transitioning into acting. Her success as an actress—including starring in Exit, one of the highest-grossing films ever in South Korea—has made her a household name worldwide. The singer-actress’s popularity has landed her multiple endorsement deals including with Innisfree and Estée Lauder, for which she is the brand’s Asia Pacific ambassador.

The popular celebrity made a special appearance in Singapore to celebrate the brand’s new Beauty Sleep Lounge event on September 28. Tatler Singapore had the chance to sit down with Yoona, who revealed her beauty routine, make-up tips and more.
You’re in Singapore today to celebrate the launch of the Beauty Sleep Lounge event. What’s your evening ritual to achieve a good beauty sleep?
I believe that it is really important to do a skincare routine every day, of course— to cleanse the skin. But most importantly, to ensure that my skin is healthy, I’ll apply Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum every day on top of my basic skincare routine.
You’ve played a wide variety of characters as an actress. Is there a character make-up look that you’ve enjoyed the most?
Yes, I did a lot. It is true that I did a lot of different styles and characters, the most recent drama being King The Land. Sa-rang (Yoona’s character on the show), or Sa-rang style is a look that a lot of people have loved. So that’s why I would like to recommend her style. So as you can see in front of me, there’s a foundation cushion and lipsticks. These are actually the products we used for Sa-rang’s look. So if you use these products, you can actually achieve the make-up look that Sa-rang has in the drama. In Korea, there’s a term called 꾸안꾸 (KuanKku), which means “You did make-up? It doesn’t look you did”, so it’s a very natural look. So if you use these products, you can do a similar natural yet complete make-up look just like Sa-rang.
