Wynn Macau confuses K-pop fans after pulling concert abruptly

Wynn Macau’s abrupt cancellation of a highly anticipated K-pop music festival originally slated for 21 and 22 October has set off a stream of complaints on social media amid concerns over refund arrangements for hotel accommodation and air tickets.

The open-air music
festival, titled “HallyuPopFest Macau 2023”, boasted an impressive lineup of
renowned K-pop stars, including NCT Dream, SHINee, Hyolyn, KARD, Sam Kim, Verivery,
Cherry Bullet, Omega X, H1-Key, and NINE to SIX.

However, Wynn Macau on
Monday called off the event, but has yet to provide an explanation for the
sudden change of plans.

Macau News Agency has
contacted the casino operator for comment on follow-up arrangements.

In a public statement
addressing the cancellation of the event, Wynn Macau assured that a full refund
would be provided in line with the procedures of the ticketing platforms through
which customers bought their tickets.

The cancellation has
triggered an outpouring of frustration and outrage from K-pop fans who had already
made travel arrangements in advance.

Many have taken to
social media platforms to express their disappointment, highlighting the
challenges they now face with non-refundable hotel reservations and air
tickets.

Some of them even claimed
online that they would seek intervention from tourism authorities on the
matter.

Responding to fans’ concerns, the organiser of the music festival has expressed apologies for the situation on its Weibo account. However, it stressed that its scope of responsibility is limited to handling ticket refunds only.

Macau News Agency has
also reached out to the Macao Government Tourism Office for comment.

Earlier this year,
brokerage J.P. Morgan said that a series of concerts held in Macau had
been key growth drivers of the region’s non-holiday gross gaming
revenue.
