Stray Kids were forced to cancel their upcoming gig at the Global Citizen festival after three members of the K-pop band sustained minor injuries in a car accident on Wednesday.
A vehicle carrying Stray Kids members Lee Know, Hyunjin, and Seungmin was involved in a “minor collision,” after which the three members went to the hospital. Following a medical examination, the three Stray Kids were diagnosed with “mild muscle pain and bruises,” and were advised by medical professionals to “receive conservative treatment for the time being,” their label JYPE said in a statement.
As a result, the Stray Kids were taken off the Global Citizen bill; however, three members of the group — Bang Chan, Changbin, and HAN, performing under the moniker 3RACHA — will take their place instead when the festival heads to New York’s Central Park on Sept. 23.
“Following today’s announcement from Stray Kids, we can confirm that 3RACHA will perform at the Global Citizen Festival this Saturday. Our thoughts are with the Stray Kids community,” Global Citizen said in a statement to Rolling Stone. Earlier this month, Stray Kids performed at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lauryn Hill, BTS’ Jung Kook Conan Gray, and Anitta (but not Megan Thee Stallion, who pulled out of the festival) will also take the stage at the Great Lawn. This year’s festival is scheduled to help drive action to end extreme poverty. Global Citizen focuses its efforts on eliminating poverty in the Global South, along with gender inequities around the globe.
